After a long wait and much speculation, the ownership team behind the South Loop’s Roosevelt Collection announced the first wave of retail tenants that’ll compliment the development’s movie theater.

Among the retailers joining the Roosevelt Collection are clothing giant H&M; cosmetic shop Ulta; clothing shops Francesca’s Collection, White House Black Market, and Republic of Couture; home decor shop Z Gallerie; and athletic gear shop Fleet Feet Sports.

Also coming to the development are two restaurants: BlackFinn American Grille and Mexican concept Chica Loca.

The nine tenants combined will occupy 56 percent of the retail space that surrounds the movie theater, according to Clayton McCaffery, managing director for development and leasing for the project’s owner, McCaffery Interests.

By far, the biggest of the new tenants is H&M, which will take up 25,000 square feet of space. Republic of Couture will take up 15,000, followed by BlackFinn at 10,000. By contrast, Francesca’s will only be about 2,000 square feet.

None of the tenants announced this week will be on the end locations facing Roosevelt Road. When asked if he saw any of the new businesses as an anchor, McCaffery said no.

“The anchor’s already here,” he said, referring to the Kerasotes ShowPlace Icon Theater, where the announcement was made. “This is the best anchor anyone could ever have. These guys are spectacular.”

When asked about a possible Apple Store, McCaffery deferred, saying discussion of the store in the past had been “speculation,” and declined to comment further.

All the stores announced this week have begun buildout of their spaces, McCaffery said, and they should be open by next fall. Fleet Feet’s owner Dave Zimmer said he’s hoping to open by this spring, in time for the running season.

McCaffery said there are more stores on the way, as well: He expects to announce another round of tenants in four to five months.
