A 21-year-old Jacksonville man gave up his iPhone to an armed robber after walking and talking on the 300 block of South Canal Street at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18. The man told police he was walking down Canal Street when a man walked up next to him then alongside him for about half a block. The man then pulled up his shirt, revealing a handgun and demanded the victim’s cellphone before walking away southbound on Canal.

Bus rider caught with guns


A 52-year-old man from Reno, Nevada was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun after he was caught on Saturday, April 14, with two handguns and ammunition in his duffle bag while boarding a bus at the Greyhound station, 630 W. Harrison St.

Wrong-way driver caught with crack stash


A man caught driving the wrong way on a one-way street was charged with possession of crack Sunday, April 1, after police said they found the rock-like narcotic in a shoe-box in his car. Police charged Dantril D. Edinburg, 30, of Zion, after patrol officers saw him driving northbound at 7:15 p.m. on a one-way southbound street in the vicinity of 500 South Wabash.

Man threatens cops with knife


A 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested for assault at a Blue Line station at 130 W. Congress Parkway on Thursday, March 22, after police said he pulled a knife on them. Police were called to the station at 10:10 p.m. to investigate a report of a gang disturbance when a CTA employee pointed to a man who was allegedly part of the disturbance. Police said when they went to question the man, he allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened them before an officer knocked the knife out of his hand with a baton.

Man robbed in jewelry store bathroom


Police reported a strange case of strong-armed robbery on Monday, March 26, when a man was assaulted in a jewelry store toilet stall allegedly by two men he said he knew. The victim told police he pulled up outside the store in the first block of North Wabash at around 5:20 p.m. March 26 in a van with his wife and daughter with the intention of buying a gift for his wife.

Homeless man robbed at 'home'


A 32-year-old homeless man reported he was robbed at 12:30 p.m., March 13, in the 300 block of West Lower Wacker Drive. The man, who gave his address as the 300 block of Lower Wacker Drive, told police he was at “home” when a silver four-door Acura pulled up and a man got out and asked for a dollar. When the victim refused to provide the dollar, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded his money and jewelry.

A man who said he had a gun and threatened to “shoot up the place,” robbed Citibank, 69 W. Washington St., at around 2:30 p.m. on March 12, making off with about $1,500.

Downtown bank robbed


A man wearing a safety vest, a mask and yellow gloves or mittens robbed Chicago Community Bank on Thursday, March 1 without showing a weapon. Police said a man came into the bank at 52 E. Lake St. at around 10:30 a.m. March 1, and approached a teller, saying “Give me everything you have and don’t press any safety buttons.” Police said the teller, a 21-year-old Bolingbrook woman, thought the man had a weapon in his coat pocket and gave him $3,670, police said, before he fled east on Lake Street.
