Breathe, downtown drivers

This Friday comes the day we’ve all been waiting for: The reopening of Wacker Drive.

If you’ve ever tried to navigate downtown’s streets in a horseless carriage, you know what we’re talking about.

People may rant and rave about the Eisenhower, Dan Ryan and Kennedy, but Wacker Drive is truly the city’s most crucial corridor. There’s no better way to get from the South Loop to Grant Park or the Mag Mile.

So relish this moment, Chicagoans. Things will return to being just as dysfunctional as they were in 2009. Roads will carry the traffic they rightfully should. And all will be calm.

At least, until they tear up the Circle Interchange in a few years. Then we’re really in trouble.
