Thankful for readers

We missed the opportunity last week to thank you all for so many years of faithful readership. At a time when the future of the paper is in question, we couldn’t help but think of you over Thanksgiving.

It’s hard to look forward and see what will happen next. Things are very foggy right now, to say the least, and it appears there’s a chance that Chicago Journal will shutter.

But aside from selfish interests, we’re mostly unhappy on your behalf. If CJ shuts down, we hope someone will step in and help fill our void. Big news sources are a good source of information, but we obviously feel it’s valuable to have information coming from someone with a local perspective.

In the meantime, though, we’d like to thank you, readers. Without you, we wouldn’t have lasted the 12 years that we already have. Cheers.

To the staff of the Chicago Journal. Thank you for serving the neighborhoods which you cover. You have shown a genuine interest in your work and you will be greatly missed. I will miss all the information sharing through the comments, even the intense ones. I will miss the neighborhood tidbits and info on unexplored destinations. Thank you for your service and good luck in future endevors.

Regardless, the Gazette has been around since 1983 and its coverage has always been superior. The point was that there is another local paper providing community coverage and it is not if its this paper or nothing as had been suggested. I'll say the CJ had a good run, but as I said wasn't the same after Brett and Lydia left.

A clarification: The Gazette is a monthly newspaper, and the online version is not updated between publication dates. The Chicago Journal is a weekly and the online version is frequently updated.

There is another local paper - the Gazette. The community has nothing to worry about. The coverage in the Journal hasn't been the same since Brett McNeil and Lydia Gibson left.

No, thank YOU for the 8 wonderful years I have been reading this paper. You have broken news before any of the other papers. You have a genuine interest in the neighborhoods which you cover. I pray someone will step up and you find a buyer. If not, there will definitely be a communication hole in the communities in which you have served. You mean more to the near west side than you can imagine.
