Small businesses working together in West Loop

Economists will tell you the companies responsible for employment growth wonít be big corporations. Theyíll be start-ups ó small businesspeople with good ideas. Alas, nothing is quite as hard as building a new business from scratch. Interestingly, the West Loop is fertile ground for new businesses. Two are actually geared toward helping other small businesses succeed: Ox&Pen and Innovation Factory.

Hereís the thing: If knuckleheaded voters put Smith back into office, the Illinois House canít expel him again for the same reason. That means weíre stuck with an accused crook, at least until heís officially convicted and jailed. Thatís unacceptable.

Riverwalk, why?

The Chicago River is nice. Itís got a lot of potential if it ever gets cleaned up, and darned if it isnít fun to kayak in ó providing you take a shower (or three) afterwards. But we have to say that Mayor Rahm Emanuelís plan for a $10 million expansion of the Riverwalk is pure folly.

What is there to say about Peteís Fresh Market at this point? The project has been marred with so many curveballs, delays and unfortunate incidents at this point that we wouldnít be surprised if a satellite fell out of the sky and crashed smack dab in the middle of Madison and Western.
