I was pleased to speak recently with 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti and am glad to hear he remains committed to improving the infrastructure of the South Loop. Because our wards are so close to one another, Bob and I have had the opportunity to work together since 2007 on many of these projects. In particular, projects to resurface streets and improve public lighting often span both wards, and I am glad to have a partner with whom to accomplish these goals. For example, I pushed to advance the resurfacing projects along State, Wabash, and Cullerton, as well as the installation of new lighting features on State, Michigan, Wabash and Cermak. I have also worked with Bob to ensure that Cermak between King Drive and State Streets will be resurfaced this spring.

I believe it is extremely important to maintain a cohesive South Loop community, and will continue to work together with Alderman Fioretti on these infrastructure projects and other initiatives that affect our respective constituencies such as the new CTA Green Line station proposed for 22nd Street and the Bash on Wabash. I also remain committed to building upon my work that has attracted positive South Loop businesses such as Reggies Record Breakers, Tapas Valencia, Overflow Coffee, The Burger Point, Flavor 180, Sarpino’s Pizza, Firestone Tire Center, Daystar School, South Loop KinderCare, Columbia College Media Production Center, the proposed Mariano’s Food Store and expansion of Euro Collison.

When the new map for the 3rd Ward goes into effect, I look forward to meeting with my new constituents and will remain committed to representing the best interests of all 3rd Ward residents, both old and new.

Pat Dowell
Alderman, 3rd Ward

TO: OM from South Loop I live in the 2nd Ward and I am aware that the development at 35th & State is in Dowell\'s Ward. However when Tillman was alderma,I spoke with a site locator for specific copier business for the 2nd Ward, pulled in the City of Chicago Dept of Planning, got them to talk to each other because I wanted the copier shop in Douglas, north of Indiana on Michigan. I then got a call from the City of Chicago who shared that they convinced them to locate at 35th and State.

To Near South...the 35th and State street area has always been the 3rd Ward and not the second so Haithcock didn't have anything to do with anything there. All of those stores open in 2007-10 under Dowell. Perhaps Tillman had a role but certainly not Haithcock.

Everyone please go to thecha.org to vote on a plan and write comments. The is the chance to be heard as non-CHA people aren't allowed to attend the meetings.

To: O.M. from South Loop CHA will be recalibrating the CHA Plan. If you already know what 36th State will end up know please share. Also the plans for attracting businesses like Fedex to 35th State began under previous Alderman Haithcock thru the City of Chicago Department of Planning. http://www.thecha.org/pages/pft_2_0/2643.php

The housing that went up on 35th and State and going up on 36th and State is a mix of affordable, market and public housing both rental and homeownership units and it's surrounded by some very viable businesses including Starbucks, Jimmy Johns, Fed Ex and a bank. Certainly this is the type of investment needed in Bronzeville. This was done under Dowell....good effort from my perspective.

If you want to learn more about Dowell listen to her and read what she has says in black media CAN TV and her information sessions in bronzeville. This is how you will discover the real Dowell. What she says depends on her audience. She goes to CHA meetings telling them we want to get rid all of them, she goes to non CHA meetings in douglas telling us she will hold the loop hostage to get development, then she will go to the loop and tell them how shes for development. This is the game she plays.

Dowells plan for development of bronzeville is to hold hostage any developments or bussinesses(Marianos is an example) unless they open in bronzeville. She should be trying to raise the median income, but instead there are more CHA units being built along state street , and stop the loitering. She isn't trying to make the area attractive to busineeses. So she just blames racism for the lack of development when in reality she is the reason for the non-progress.

"Many homeowners in Bronzeville do not support Pat Dowell!!!" by Bronzeville - That might be the case, but obviously not enough voters are opposed to Ald Dowell to keep her from getting re-elected. From what I can see, if Ald Dowell were up for re-election tomorrow, she would win hands down! In any case, I would still rather have her as alderman in the South Loop than Fioretti ANY DAY! Fioretti is absolutely terrible.

By Fioretti is a horrible alderman! from South Loop

While I don't agree with Ald Dowell on all the issues, I like her and think she is a good alderman if for no other reason that she has always returned my calls and she has NEVER lied to me! I can't say that about the other guy who said he would never take money from developers and then did! Fioretti simply cannot be trusted to keep his word! When the folks in the new 2nd Ward see that, they will not re-elect him. Ald Dowell however will win by a large amount. They really like her in Bronzeville!

There are CHA units being built even as we speak at 36th & State. I do not know how many. This is in Dowell's Ward.

Tina, Blogs are full of opinions and sometimes lies so I'd rather see the facts substantiating your claim that Dowell refuses to reduce CHA housing and that she only cares about her power. Sounds like you have a personal ax to grind.

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/January-2012/Gangs-and-Politicians-An-Unholy-Alliance/ Well at least Alderman Dowell has time to meet with Gang Leaders and then attempt to lie about it. Imagine that you dolts, the new Alderman will give more time to criminals than your needs.

It would seem quite plausible (maybe even likely I must imagine) that someone of "political means", like someone who is already part of the political machine in Chicago, will run against Ald. Fioretti in the New 2nd Ward in 2015. Some viable candidate possibilities include: John Corrigan, John Fritchey, Luis Arroyo, Toni Berrios, Deborah Mell, William Delgado, Iris Martinez, Bridget Gainer, Edwin Reyes, and Jesse Ruben Juarez. Each of these people has money, power, or both.

I'll take Dowell over Fioretti any day! Fioretti is absolutely horrible. Ever since he spent almost $1 million back in 2007 to get himself elected, he's done nothing but scheme to run for higher office (Congress, Mayor), all while breaking his promises. He tried to out-politician his fellow aldermen & now he's going to political purgatory on the Northside where the political Machine is going to have him for lunch! He won't be re-elected in 2015, but he'll also be less effective in the meantime!

People don't be fooled by Dowell , she knows an election is coming up. She will change after the election, you will see. We have to find any anti CHA / subsidised housing challenger for her before she does more damage. Dowell is holding bronzeville back. She says she wants development, but she doesn't mean it. She doesn't want more middle class constiuants who will challenge her and hold her accountable.

By tina from douglas

Dowell is the worst. She doesn't care about middle class constituants. She only cares about her power. She wants to dilute the voices of middle class constituants and use the 3rd ward as a warehouse for the poor to maintain to guranty her re-election every term. She holds development in the loop hostage in order to make development come further south. This is not the way to attract businesses to our area. There is too much CHA housing which she refuses to reduce.

To single out the Bash on Wabash out of an impressive list of businesses and projects make clear what you think of the current alderman and/or the Bash on Wabash. I look foward to both!!

"We do not like what was done to Bob." - SouthLoopNeighbor, I agree with you but for different reasons. Flip Flop Bob should have been redistricted out into the middle of Lake Michigan! As it turns out, he got it easy by only being pushed out to Lincoln Park/Lakeview. Not bad for an alderman who has no clout whatsoever among his colleagues. And let's not even get into all the broken promises he made to the South Loop. Pat Dowell will be a much better alderman for us! At least she will listen.

Alderman Dowell, No one cares one iota about about Bash on Wabash, or even knows what it is. Perhaps if you saw the attendance and what a joke it is you would understand. There are much more important issues to worry about and the fact that you failed to mention any of those things is a sign that you are out of touch with the needs and the pulse of the South Loop.

We do not like what was done to Bob. We do not believe you helped the mamter at all with your caucus demands of entitlement. You have big shoes to fill and we will be watching you--assuming you win the next election which is very doubtful at this time.
