Speed enforcement cameras will make Chicago streets safer

Letter to the editor

10/26/2011

As pedestrian and cyclist safety advocates, the Active Transportation Alliance supports state legislation that would allow the city of Chicago to use cameras to enforce speed limits in safety zones around schools and parks. This initiative is a way to make our streets safer, particularly for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and bicyclists who do not have the protection of an air bag, seat belt or steel frame.

Faith in Mercy Hospital

Letter to the editor

10/12/2011

As a long time South Loop resident and the healthcare consultant quoted in last week’s article on Mercy Hospital’s plans to merge with Trinity Health [ed. note: now two weeks ago, entitled “Mercy might merge” published Sept. 28], I would like to add the following, which did not appear in the article: Should I call 911 with symptoms of a stroke or heart attack, the Fire Department EMS will take me to Mercy Hospital.

New bike lanes a boon for Chicago

Letter to the editor

10/05/2011

Letter to the editor

07/13/2011

Don't be a Chicago casino NIMBY

Letter to the editor

07/06/2011

I agree with Bonnie McGrath (Gambling against the South Loop, June 30) that gambling is an all-around bad idea/deal. Specifically, as it preys on the more economically challenged population, will only add low paying jobs with little advancement, promote crime, dramatically increase traffic congestion and be profitable for only a select few while being a breeding ground for corruption.
